A Performer Who Lives for the Stage

Evan Watts Smith has spent more than 15 years cultivating a career as a versatile musician and performer. Evan spends much of his career in the world of musical theatre as a music director & educator. As a performing artist, Evan has made a name for himself with his tribute show Pianomen: The Music of Billy Joel and Elton John which he has performed across the province as well as with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestra Symphonique de Sherbrooke in Quebec. As a recording artist, Evan has been featured as a keyboard player, vocalist and arranger on Janet Cull’s Real Tough Love, Waterfront Fire’s Stillwater Lake, Glen Collins’ Curry and Pete’s Calypso. He regularly plays with national award winning artists Kellie Loder & Mallory Johnson.

After years of lending his piano playing and vocals to other artists, in 2024 Evan began working on original music of his own for the first time. His debut album “Turn On the Dark” was released to a sold out audience at the Majestic Theatre in St. John’s in May of 2025. That Fall he was awarded Rising Star of the Year by MusicNL. 2026 brought more music directing credits with Frozen at the Globe Theatre in Regina, the world premiere of Man of the Year with Artistic Fraud, and a return to Gander with Come From Away. In 2027 Evan returns to the NSO as headliner for The Music of the Beatles, as well as returning to the Globe Theatre to music direct Les Miserables.
